Two dragons spiral into each other inside a carved yin-yang, one silver, one crimson.
I carved the wood first to give them dimension, then collaged real newsprint across the background before adding the dragons themselves. Each scale is cut by hand from recycled Coca-Cola cans and set one at a time to catch the light. Copper wire, metal beads, chain, and found hardware finish the piece.

About the Artist
Rita Irvin is a self-taught mixed-media artist raised in West Berlin, Germany. Her paintings work through memory, emotion, and transformation, built in layered textures and imagery. Influenced by Dalí, Frida Kahlo, and Georgia O'Keeffe, Rita developed her own visual language without formal training, shaped by years in interior design and a lifelong immersion in art and architecture. Every piece is a one-of-a-kind original, made by hand and never reproduced.
