I painted a skeletal figure, exposed bone and trailing root, reaching across the threshold to extend a single blood-red rose toward a shadow figure kneeling below, a small red heart glowing at the center of its chest.
The rose sheds its petals mid-air between them. Roots spill from both figures, tangling into the ash-grey ground beneath, and a corona of gold and rust light fractures the dark behind them.

About the Artist
Rita Irvin is a self-taught mixed-media artist raised in West Berlin, Germany. Her paintings work through memory, emotion, and transformation, built in layered textures and imagery.
