I built this one around Cocoa Beach. The pier, the sunset off the water, the sailboat, the chart and the compass, the Artemis II launch going up from the coast, the sharks. The koi don't belong to this coast and neither does most of what I paint, so I put them in the sky and the water both. I painted the shark because I love the animals more than almost anything, and sharks are the best of them. The stump anchors the far corner. None of it is arranged the way the place actually is. It is still the truest thing I could say about living here.

About the Artist
Rita Irvin is a self-taught mixed-media artist raised in West Berlin, Germany. Her paintings work through memory, emotion, and transformation, built in layered textures and imagery. Influenced by Dalí, Frida Kahlo, and Georgia O'Keeffe, Rita developed her own visual language without formal training, shaped by years in interior design and a lifelong immersion in art and architecture.
